Upon completion of this educational activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the mechanisms by which grapefruit juice (GFJ) may produce pharmacokinetic interactions with certain prescription drugs.
- Evaluate medications being taken by patients and discuss with their physicians which drugs, if any, may be of concern when taken with GFJ.
- Consult with patients' physicians in selecting drugs within a given class that may be safely taken with GFJ, with little or no risk of a drug interaction.
- Caution patients and other health care professionals regarding sources of information that may be incomplete or inaccurate.
